Man Charged After 160km Police Chase Through NSW Far West with Children in Car
A 32-year-old man has been refused bail after allegedly leading police on a high-speed pursuit across the NSW Far West on Easter Saturday, with a woman and two children inside the vehicle.
Officers from the Barrier Police District were conducting roadside breath testing on Menindee Road in Broken Hill about 10:00 pm on Saturday, April 4, 2026, when they directed a sedan to stop. Police will allege the driver ignored the direction and initiated a pursuit onto the Barrier Highway, reaching speeds of up to 180 km/h in a 110 km/h zone.

Pursuit Ends After Road Spikes Deployed
The chase continued for approximately 160 kilometres toward Wilcannia. Local officers successfully deployed road spikes, causing the sedan to slow over a five-kilometre range before coming to a stop.
Authorities allege the driver then fled into nearby bushland but was arrested a short time later following a search. Upon inspecting the vehicle, police found a 34-year-old woman, a 14-year-old girl, and a seven-month-old baby girl inside.
Fortunately, none of the occupants were physically injured.
Charges Laid and Bail Refused
The man was taken to Broken Hill Police Station and formally charged with three offences:
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
- Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period
- Contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic)
He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Bail Division Court 4 today, Sunday, April 5, 2026.
