Kmart and Target Recall Drink Bottles After Reports of Lids Ejecting and Causing Safety Risk

Kmart and Target have issued an urgent nationwide recall for a popular two-litre stainless steel drink bottle after discovering a design fault that could cause the lid to eject forcefully, posing a serious risk of injury.

The recall, identified by PRA number 2026/20875, affects the 2L Stainless Steel Top Handle Drink Bottle sold in black and khaki.

These products were available for purchase at Kmart and Target stores, as well as online and via their mobile apps, between June 25, 2025, and March 6, 2026.

According to the official product safety notice, the defect occurs when the bottle is used with hot liquids. The internal lid threading may shrink when exposed to heat, causing the lid to lose its grip and eject as a “projectile” under pressure.
