Sydney Olympic Park to Gain 15,000 Homes and 26,000 Jobs Under Master Plan 2050

Sydney Olympic Park is set to undergo major transformation over the next 25 years under a newly finalised master plan that aims to expand housing, employment opportunities and public green space across the precinct.

The NSW government’s Sydney Olympic Park Master Plan 2050 outlines the construction of up to 13,000 additional homes, bringing the total number of residences in the area to about 15,000, alongside plans to support up to 26,000 jobs.

The precinct, originally developed for the 2000 Olympic Games, will continue to operate as a major sports and entertainment destination while evolving into a mixed-use community with residential, commercial and cultural facilities.

Vision for Sydney Olympic Park

Planning Minister Paul Scully said the plan would guide long-term growth while maintaining the area’s environmental and recreational character.

“More than 25 years on from the Sydney Olympics, Sydney Olympic Park remains a world-class hub for sport and entertainment and now a growing community,” he said.

Housing, jobs and community facilities planned

Under the plan, up to 20 per cent of housing built on government-owned land will be allocated as affordable housing, with an additional five per cent target for private developments.

The proposal also includes new public infrastructure designed to support a growing population, including playgrounds, sports fields, schools and community facilities.

Authorities plan to deliver 10 new playgrounds, nine outdoor public spaces and four additional sports fields, along with a cultural centre, library and community hub.

The government said the development would be supported by major transport projects, including Sydney Metro West and the Parramatta Light Rail extension, as well as upgrades to surrounding road networks.

Focus on green space and sustainability

The master plan also places emphasis on environmental protection, with about 430 hectares of public open space to be preserved or enhanced.

Officials said the project would build on the precinct’s reputation for sustainability established during the 2000 Olympic Games, sometimes referred to as the “Green Games”.

Sydney Olympic Park Authority chief executive Neisha D’Souza said the plan would help attract investment and support long-term growth.

The Master Plan 2050 is the catalyst for investment and growth, bringing certainty and unlocking opportunity, she said.

Development across the precinct is expected to occur gradually over the coming decades as infrastructure projects are completed and demand for housing continues to grow.
