Single winner claims $40 million Powerball jackpot as draw resets to $5 million
A single lottery player has become an overnight multi-millionaire after winning the entire $40 million Powerball jackpot in Thursday night’s national draw.
Gaming authorities confirmed there was just one division one winner in Powerball draw #1561 and officials are now working to contact the ticket holder to deliver the life-changing news.
The jackpot had climbed to $40 million after going unclaimed for three consecutive weeks, fuelling strong ticket sales across the country.

Winning numbers revealed
The winning numbers for Thursday night’s draw were 27, 13, 15, 19, 14, 3 and 7, with the Powerball number 18.
While only one person secured the top prize, dozens of other players also walked away with significant winnings.
Twenty-one ticket holders matched enough numbers to win division two prizes of $36,310 each, while 104 players claimed division three payouts of $9000.
Jackpot resets for next draw
With the major prize now claimed, the Powerball jackpot will reset to $5 million for the next draw scheduled for April 23.
Lottery officials regularly remind players to check their tickets carefully, particularly after large jackpots, as winners sometimes remain unaware of their windfall for days or even weeks.
